“Lacquer provides water protection, ventilation, and UV prevention. In the past, craftsmen used lacquer to cover ‘kub-la-ae’ or the Lanna hat, which was worn in wars, to reinforce the hat and create beautiful patterns on its texture. Applying this traditional technique in a contemporary context, we have incorporated lacquer covering into modern hats such as visors or caps.”

Kiattisak Chaimuangchuen is a lacquer master and the heir to the kub-la-ae or Lanna hat-making tradition. Recognizing the changing times, we collaborated with Kittisak to apply the traditional technique to modern products such as visors and caps, presenting stylish lacquer hats adorned with Lanna flowery patterns on their texture.
